This morning, the Guild has demanded an immediate Meet and Confer with Management to discuss the library department's Coronavirus plan as highlighted in the City Librarian's email sent yesterday. One of the important issues we will address is canceling library programming as Management chose not to address this issue with us in the email. The Coalition of Los Angeles City Unions has also demanded a Meet/Confer with the City to discuss the City's big picture Coronavirus plan as it relates to City employees. The Guild will be seated at this table and we will report back to all of you any important news and updates. Many of you are relatively new workers who may not have the right to use SK or VC time at this point, and we will be addressing this with the City. These are highly unusual times, if not extraordinary, and we will be demanding that the City not act as if business is usual. Lastly, if any of you or your fellow staff members have health issues that place you at high risk for Coronavirus infection, please have your physicians draft notes highlighting your risk for you to use at the appropriate time. As all of us know, during times of emergency (earthquakes, pandemics, etc), the City will direct its workforce to serve the people of LA in many different capacities. A physician’s note underscoring your risk will be invaluable to safeguard your health and safety. Sincerely, Henry Gambill and Lisa Palombi

In light of the concern over Coronavirus, the Executive Board has decided to cancel this month's General Membership Meeting (originally scheduled for 3/27).
This is an exceptional situation not likely to be replicated again and the health and safety of our members and their families is the priority. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to the Guild (librariansguild at hotmail.com), your stewards, or any member of the Executive Board. - Kadie Seitz (Chair, Electronic Communications & Outreach) |
